We decided during our urgent board meeting yesterday to suspend this Saturday’s classes. we expect to make decisions regarding proceeding with or suspending classes on a week-to-week basis. Below is a message from the board.
Dear SVKS community:
The rapidly evolving public health crisis caused by COVID-19/coronavirus is top of mind for SVKS. We are closely monitoring the guidance published by public health authorities like the Center for Disease Control, the Santa Clara Public Health Department and the Fremont Unified School District in which SVKS is located. We wanted to share our thoughts and plans for the near term.
First and foremost, SVKS is about our students, and the teachers, staff and volunteers who provide our classes and activities. While the mission of our school is provide Korean language and cultural programs our students, the safety and wellbeing of our community is of primary importance.
To date, none of the public health authorities that we are aware of has recommended that schools like SVKS cease operations. Indeed, in some cases, published guidance recommend that schools remain open (e.g., https://www.sccgov.org/sites/phd/news/Pages/new-guidance-new-covid-19-3-5-2020.aspx).
However, out of an abundance of caution and concern, we have decided to suspend classes for this week. We expect to be able to make up the time in the future or by offering alternative learning experiences. Because the situation appears to change every day, we expect to make decisions regarding proceeding with or suspending classes on a week-to-week basis.
